25% of acne sufferers never had a SINGLE pimple before adulthood....

Updated: Sep 4

...So what the HECK is happening here??...

The typical view of acne is outdated- the fact is, more and more people are beginning to suffer from onset of adult acne. What does this mean? Adult acne describes a type of acne that suddenly appears in adulthood. Typically we think of acne as being a "teenage" problem, but not anymore. We're still trying to figure out exactly why this phenomenon has been growing in recent years, but if you ask me I believe there are some triggers to consider:

  • Worsening food supply (poor quality, highly processed, excessive use of additives- I mean seriously, when is the last time you looked at a nutrition label that had less than 3 or 4 ingredients?)

  • Higher stress levels

  • Higher prevalence of unknown food sensitivities (probably exacerbated by the first two bullet points)

The 3 Tools You need for GREAT skin:

1. Stress management regimen. Prioritize things that help you manage stress. It's different for everyone, but SUPER important in managing skin conditions. If you're not sure where to start you can take a look at these tips from the Center for Mind Body Medicine here

2. Adequate Sleep. Sleep is one of the foundations of how well our body functions and poor sleep can also mean inadequate digestion, poor detoxing- not to mention grumpiness which can increase stress! Click here for tips on how to sleep better.

3. A good diet. Read your ingredient labels, while some ingredients may be added for nutritional value, if it's a very lengthy list full of things you can't pronounce that's a good indication it's probably more processed than you want. Fooducate is an app that helps you navigate the nutritional value of foods on the market. Take it with a grain of salt, not ALL info is correct but it's a great place to start!
